Sydney Vivid is back in 2022. After two years of cancellations due to Covid, we can look forward to Sydney VIVID 2022 which will take place from the 27th of May until the 18th of June. For 23 days the festival will connect Sydney to light artists, music makers, brilliant thinkers and all creatives. This year we can finally welcome the Dutch contribution Studio Toer with the art work ‘Bloom’ (Circular Quay and The Rocks). Toer is a multidisciplinary design studio from Eindhoven in the Netherlands, founded in 2011 by Castor Bours and Wouter Widdershoven. From the Sydney Vivid website:
Picture a meadow just as winter surrenders to spring. Tiny buds blossom in the sun and sway in the breeze. Whether natives or exotics they never fail to delight. Now imagine this field blooming with light. Spread over a grassy bank, giant flowers of light seem to furl and unfurl. In this installation, each ‘flower’ comprises six LED strips radiating from a central point. The strips arc in kinetic curves that splay petals of light onto the grass. As they simulate the process of budding, this constant dynamic mirrors the ongoing bloom of flora throughout our landscapes.
