I came across a book review in the ‘Spectator’. The book was called: ‘Games People Played’, A Global History of Sport’. The illustration referred to and I quote: ‘And golf has existed for millennia; it was not invented by a Scottish shepherd, and probably reached Scotland from the Netherlands’. The painting is by Hendrick Avercamp

When storing this article, I found a little booklet published by Shell in the Netherlands in 1976. ‘Shell Journaal van Oude Sporten’. This was a yearly publication promoting a particular charity or institution. That year it was dedicated to the ‘Nederlandse Invaliden Sportsbond’.
