Jan Vennik: the Dutchman at Eureka a book by Yvonne Davis, tells the story of a Dutchman who was present in the vicinity of the Eureka Stockade on 3 December 1854, before he was arrested and charged with Treason together with 12 others.
Jan Vennik was born in a small village in the north of the Netherlands; who left his work as a carpenter behind in 1852, to travel half way around to world in search of gold at Ballarat.
This book explores whether Vennik was merely in the wrong place at the wrong time; it investigates where he came from and where did he went after his acquittal on all charges, at the Eureka Trials in early 1855.
