The DARWIN200 Global Voyage is a two-year long voyage that followed the route of Charles Darwin’s voyage on the HMS Beagle around the world. The voyage took place between 2023 and 2025, during which time 32 countries were visited, including the Galapagos Islands, Tahiti, Australia, and South Africa.
The voyage was organised by the DARWIN200 Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to inspiring and empowering young people to become leaders in conservation. The Foundation selected 200 young people from around the world to participate in the voyage. These young people, known as the DARWIN Leaders, conducted research on the environmental challenges facing their countries and developed projects to address these challenges.
The voyage started on 14 August 2023 when the 50-metre long, historic Dutch tall ship Oosterschelde (built in 1918) left Plymouth. It reached Sydney on 11 November 2024 and stayed for about two weeks, before sailing to Hobart on 26 November. Oosterschelde was in Hobart for a few days, then sailed to New Zealand on 3 December. The voyage later took the ship to Cape Town, Ascension Island, and the Azores before finally finishing in Falmouth, in the UK, on 20 July 2025. Over the two-year voyage, the Oosterschelde sailed 43,000 nautical miles.
