The National Australia Remembers Freedom Wall commemorates the “sacrifice of a generation” that have resulted in 50 years of peace in the Pacific since World War Two, and honours the servicemen and servicewomen who died in service or were killed in action, and also those who brought freedom to Australia, including workers on the land and organisations such as the Red Cross.

The Freedom Wall consists of two long walls which intersect with a circular wall on which 16000 plaques are mounted.  The plaques were placed by family, friends and community members to remember lost loved ones.

The memorial features as its centrepiece a depiction of a 1945 photo of ex-prisoner of war Private P. Walsh being reunited with his family. Source: Monument Australia

The following pictures have been kindly provided by Peter Rasey. He believes due to his limited knowledge of the Dutch language is that there is likely lots more Dutch-connected tributes and so the National Australia Remembers Freedom Wall is well worth a visit in the Brisbane Botanical Gardens at Mt Coot-tha.

On the video below the pictures Peter provides more information on this important War Memorial.
