After my departure from America, I became Captain Technical Officer, in charge of the Technical Service of the 120 Fighter Squadron operating from Bundaberg and New Guinea.
In June 1946, after the return of our troops from Java, I became Head of the Technical Service of the Kemajoran airfield in Batavia airfield, until this airfield was taken by civil aviation (KLM).
Was then put charged of building up the fire brigade and gas control service facilities and then transferred to this island of Biak in Dutch New Guinea for the organisation and maintenance of the technical facilities of this base: motor transport maintenance workshop; water and electrical utilities, butchery and bread bakery, cold stores, ice machines and automatic laundry.
During the time I was in Batavia, I thoroughly checked, with the help of Indonesian mechanics the technical installations of Hotel Des Indes, and put it back into operation, as it had been left dilapidated by the Japanese occupiers.
An emergency installation was built with the use of two parallel connected petrol generators for the water supply and cooling equipment, as the town supply regularly failed.
