Jan van de Stool, International Musical Therapist – was a successful Real Estate Agent before giving it all up and making a natural progression into becoming a Self-Help Guru.
She lives in Woy Woy, with Pieter, her husband and cousin, and their son Henk, and promotes her unique brand of musical therapy at the local Scout Hall.
Originally from Schiermonnikoog, an unpronounceable small village in the Frisian Islands in the Netherlands, Jan originally immigrated to Canberra in the early 70’s – where she had early success as a singer in her all female group – Pandora’s Box.
But these days Jan prefers to use her ‘unique’ musical skills to help other people. Jan is very proud to say, that through the power of her unique gifts, she has helped, literally, tens of people.
She has toured Australia since 2015 with her show I GET THE MUSIC IN YOU, an evening with Jan van de Stool, and began touring her new show Jan van de Stool in PARTING THE RED CURTAINS in 2018.
Since her first ‘workshop’ in 2004, Jan has gathered a national cult following in Australia, through her YouTube Channel which shows her interviewing and working with celebrities on the series Uncovering the Cover of Celebrities, creating The Voice Vlog with van de Stool, a series that satirised the 2013 series of The Voice and most recently helping Australians through the 2020 lockdown with the Coronavlog with van de Stool. Her videos that have been watched by thousands of her ‘Fan de Stools’ and in 2016 her fame spread even further when she made it to the Semi-Finals on Season 8 of Australia’s Got Talent.
Having been seen by over 1 million people online, on TV and in theatres across Australia, she is now often asked to appear at Corporate Events as an ‘Inspirational Speaker’, to host charity concerts and award shows such as hosting The Helpmann Awards, two years running, both of which were televised on Foxtel and ABC TV. Her former ‘student’, musical theatre and cabaret star – Queenie van de Zandt, is also developing several shows for Jan for her next leap into television.
Jan van de Stool is a fictional character created by Queenie. She is a Dutch-born musical therapist who is known for her eccentric personality and her unconventional methods. Van de Zandt created the character in 2002, and she has since performed as Jan van de Stool in a number of solo shows and television appearances.
