The 70th anniversary of the Japanese air raid on Broome was commemorated in March 2012, bringing together Australian, Dutch and American representatives, survivors, descendants and members of the local community.

The commemorations honoured those who lost their lives on 3 March 1942, including Dutch civilian evacuees and military personnel who had fled the Japanese invasion of the Netherlands East Indies. They also recognised the survivors and the continuing significance of Broome in the shared wartime history of Australia and the Netherlands.
